|

| Hi, I purchased a PCI adapter and my computer says that it is connected to the wireless adapter however cannot detect internet. I live at 1821 PCH, the apts. behind the Vons. Is there something else I can try? I'm not the most computer savvy so is there something I'm not doing in terms of the rights settings for internet explorer? Should I get antennae for outside like some people on this forum suggested? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! |

The good news is ... You're close enough to the existing nodes that you should be able to get a clear signal ... How's your LOS?
That's Line of Sight (LOS) ... With the right antenna and a clear path or line of sight to one of the two existing nodes you should be fine.
I'm thinking that you have installed the card correctly and that the issue is a better antenna, but you should be able to see SOME wireless networks in your immediate vicinity... Don't You?
A couple of questions ... 1821 PCH, the Apts. behind VONS ... Do you mean 1821 Ardmore? ... or are you simply near VONS on PCH.
Being on PCH and being in an Apartment will make it a challenge to get clear LOS.
If you have a PCI Adapter from Buffalo, Dlink, Netgear, or Linksys ... it's likely that your adapter has a removable antenna that can be replaced with a more powerful one.
We have an antenna that has a 14dBi gain and a five foot cord that should work ... with good LOS. If you need installation of an antenna elsewhere we can help with that too.
The connector on the 5 foot corded antenna is an RP-SMA or Reverse Polarity SMA connector. Check your documentation to see if that will work.
You'll be on WiFi Hermosa soon. |

| Thanks for the tips. Right now I am on the computer however I cannot get any page other than this one....every other one comes up as cannot be displayed. So, I know I must be close, right? I live in the Peppertree apts which are both 1821 Ardmore or PCH. I live in one right near PCH and am really not sure about my LOS. I'm thinking I really don't have much of one from my particular apt. However my neighbor gets it really well. But if I'm on this thing I must be connected so how come I can't get on any other page? I have a Linksys. If you have any other tips that would be great. Thanks again for your help! |

I'm excited that the Peppertree Apartments can get the signal, now, without much equipment or assistance.
They are a good three blocks away from the node on the fire training tower.
It is a really good sign that when, not if, the system is expanded with 12 more nodes that the entire city will be covered very well.
Cheers, Peppertree! |

You have to connect directly to the Wifihermosa AP via wifi. Unless you have a wifi bridge you can't use your own AP. Also make sure your wifi card has enough power to transmit the signal back. Just because you see the very powerfull Wifihermosa signal doesn't mean that the Wifihermosa AP receives your signal as well.
